GM Recalls Over 90,000 Cadillacs and Chevrolets Due to Risk of Transmission Lock-Up

History Behind the Recall

General Motors has announced a recall impacting more than 90,000 vehicles in the United States due to a transmission defect that could cause the front wheels to lock while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. The issue involves internal damage within the 10-speed transmission, which can result in sudden wheel lock-up and potential loss of vehicle control.

The recall was made public by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on March 6, 2025, and follows 115 field reports, including one crash allegedly related to this fault. While GM has not yet faced legal action, the recall raises concerns about the reliability of transmissions in some of its popular performance and luxury models.

Which Models Are Affected?

The following GM vehicles equipped with a 10-speed transmission are included in the recall:

  • 2019–2020 Cadillac CT6
  • 2020–2021 Cadillac CT4
  • 2020–2021 Cadillac CT5
  • 2020–2022 Chevrolet Camaro

A total of 90,081 vehicles are affected by this recall. All models are currently sold in the United States.

What Owners Need to Do Next

GM is offering a free fix for the issue. Dealers will install updated transmission control module monitoring software to help detect early signs of failure. Owners will begin receiving notification letters by mail starting April 21, 2025.

If you own an affected vehicle, it’s recommended that you contact your local Chevrolet or Cadillac dealer to schedule an inspection. For further assistance, owners can reach out to GM customer service or visit the NHTSA recall website to check by VIN.

How GM Owners Can Take Back Control

While these recalls have been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
