History Behind the Recall
General Motors has issued a major recall following a federal investigation into sudden engine failures in some of its most popular trucks and SUVs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched a probe in January 2025 after receiving 39 complaints of unexpected engine seizures and internal damage in vehicles equipped with GM’s 6.2-liter L87 V8 engine.
According to the reports, a bearing failure within the engine may lead to a complete engine seizure or a connecting rod breaching the engine block. These failures often happen without warning, posing a serious crash risk to drivers and passengers.
GM has now announced it will voluntarily recall the affected vehicles to address the problem.

The recall affects an estimated 877,000 vehicles equipped with the L87 V8 engine. Models included in this recall are:
- 2019–2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
- 2019–2024 GMC Sierra 1500
- 2021–2024 Chevrolet Tahoe & Suburban
- 2021–2024 GMC Yukon & Yukon XL
- 2021–2024 Cadillac Escalade & Escalade ESV
All affected vehicles may experience engine failure without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
