Cadillac Recalls Over 41,000 Lyriq SUVs for Display Failure That Can Increase Crash Risk

General Motors has issued a recall for more than 41,000 Cadillac Lyriq electric SUVs due to a software defect that can cause the video display to go blank, leading to the loss of critical driving information.

History Behind the Recall

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the video display on certain Cadillac Lyriq models may fail, resulting in a blank screen. When this happens, drivers lose access to essential visual information. The speedometer, warning lights, and the rearview camera could all be affected. This malfunction increases the risk of a crash, especially during reversing or at high speeds.

The issue stems from faulty video display control module software. General Motors first reported the issue on May 29, 2025, after identifying the risk during internal evaluations. Fortunately, no crashes, injuries, or fatalities have been reported in connection to this defect.

GM has confirmed that the problem can be fixed through a software update, either at a dealership or via an over-the-air (OTA) update.

Which Vehicles Are Affected

  • 2023-2024 Cadillac Lyriq

In total, 41,376 vehicles are included in the recall, registered under recall number N252500680.

What Owners Need to Do Next

Owners will receive official notification letters by July 14, 2025, with instructions on how to proceed. The fix will be a free software update performed by a dealer or sent directly to the vehicle over-the-air.

For more information, owners can contact Cadillac at 1-800-333-4223 or visit nhtsa.gov to check their vehicle’s recall status using the VIN.

How Cadillac Owners Can Take Back Control

While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
