History Behind the Recall
Toyota has announced a major recall of 1,024,407 vehicles across its Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru brands after identifying a malfunction in the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system that may cause the rearview camera display to freeze or go blank while reversing.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the defect increases the risk of a crash, as drivers may be unable to properly see behind their vehicles when backing up. The affected models span from 2020 to 2026 and include several popular vehicles such as the Toyota RAV4, Camry Hybrid, Highlander, and Subaru Solterra.
NHTSA’s report indicates that a software error in the PVM’s parking assist system is responsible for the failure. Toyota confirmed the issue following multiple field reports, leading to the recall filing on October 30, 2025.
