Chevrolet Recalls Bolt EV and EUV Models Over Battery Fire Risk

Chevrolet has once again announced a recall affecting the Bolt EV and EUV models due to concerns over battery fire risks.

Background of the Recall

This latest recall is the third in recent years, as previous recalls were issued in 2020 and 2021 for similar battery issues. General Motors (GM) stated that the recall targets the battery pack’s specific components, which have demonstrated a heightened fire risk under certain conditions. Despite efforts to address the problem with earlier software updates and battery replacements, reports of overheating and fire hazards have persisted.

Which Models Are Affected?

This recall impacts select Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV models from 2020 to 2022. GM identified that the issue lies with certain battery modules manufactured by LG Energy Solution, which may overheat, leading to a potential thermal event if specific conditions are met.

Approximately 65,000 vehicles in the United States are included in this recall, with GM committing to address the defect by replacing the affected battery modules. Chevrolet advises all Bolt owners to park their vehicles outside and refrain from charging them overnight until repairs are completed.

What Owners Need to Do Next

Owners of affected Bolt models should expect a notification from Chevrolet with instructions to bring their vehicles to a dealership for repairs. The solution involves replacing the faulty battery modules free of charge, aiming to eliminate the fire risk once and for all. Owners are also encouraged to monitor GM’s website or contact Chevrolet customer service to verify if their vehicle falls within the recall parameters.

How Chevrolet Owners Can Take Back Control

While this class action lawsuit has been initiated, thousands of Chevrolet owners are likely affected by the same alleged battery defect, with many expressing dissatisfaction over Chevrolet’s inadequate solutions. These types of issues often lead to escalated legal action, highlighting the importance of protecting consumer rights.
