2025 Kia Sorento PHEV Recalled Over Potential Fuel Leak and Fire Hazard

Kia has issued a recall for 1,385 units of its 2025 Sorento Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) due to a potential safety concern involving fuel line damage that could result in a fire.

History Behind the Recall

The issue was identified during crash testing of the upcoming 2026 Sorento PHEV models, which share the same front subframe design as the 2025 version. During certain frontal collisions, the front subframe can shift rearward, forcing the steering column into the fuel line. This could cause fuel to leak, posing a fire risk if an ignition source is present.

To date, Kia has reported no incidents of crashes, injuries, or fires related to this defect.

Which Vehicles Are Affected?

The recall involves 1,385 units of the 2025 Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid.

Key details of the 2025 Sorento PHEV include:

  • A powertrain combining a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, 6-speed automatic transmission, and 13.8-kWh battery pack.
  • 261 horsepower with an estimated 30 miles of electric-only range.

What Owners Need to Do Next

Kia will resolve the issue by installing a protective cover around the fuel line to prevent potential damage in a collision. The fix will be performed free of charge at authorized dealerships.

Owners will receive notification letters starting January 10, 2025.

For more information, Sorento PHEV owners can contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 and reference recall number SC328.

How Kia Owners Can Take Back Control

While recalls have been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, just like this – underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
