Recall Overview

Volkswagen has issued a safety recall affecting 38,710 vehicles in the United States due to a potential fuel system defect that could increase the risk of a fire. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall applies to certain 2025–2026 Volkswagen Taos models.

The issue has been identified as a compliance failure with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 301, which governs fuel system integrity.

What Is the Problem?

The defect involves the fuel pressure sensor, which may dislodge or separate from the fuel tank in the event of a rear-end collision. If this occurs, it could lead to fuel leakage, significantly increasing the risk of a fire.

Because fuel system integrity is critical during a crash, any failure of this component presents a serious safety concern. The potential for leaking fuel following an impact raises the likelihood of fire-related injuries or damage.

There are no warning signs prior to the issue occurring, meaning drivers may be unaware of the risk until after a collision.

What Owners Should Do

Volkswagen dealers will install a fuel pressure sensor wiring harness extension to address the issue, free of charge. This repair is intended to secure the component and prevent it from separating during a crash.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by June 19. In the meantime, owners can check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA website starting April 29 to confirm whether their vehicle is affected.

For additional information, owners can contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. The recall reference number is 97TH.

How Volkswagen Owners Can Take Back Control

While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
