Ford Motor Company has recently issued multiple recalls affecting various models, including the Ford Bronco Sport, Ford Maverick, Ford Escape, Lincoln Corsair, and many more.
Recall of Ford Bronco Sport and Maverick Vehicles Due to Potential Loss of Drive Power
In December 2024, Ford recalled over 270,000 vehicles, specifically the 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Ford Maverick models. The concern centers on the potential failure of the 12-volt battery, which could lead to a sudden loss of drive power or disable electrical accessories, including hazard lights. Such failures significantly increase the risk of accidents.
To address this issue, Ford dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the 12-volt batteries in the affected vehicles at no cost to the owners. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by February 3, 2025.
Recall of Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair Vehicles Over Battery Defect
Ford has also recalled more than 20,000 vehicles, including the 2020-2024 Ford Escape and 2021-2024 Lincoln Corsair models, due to a manufacturing defect in the high-voltage battery cells. This defect may result in an internal short circuit, leading to battery failure. Consequences of such a failure include loss of drive power and an increased risk of fire, both of which pose significant safety hazards.
As a remedy, Ford dealers will perform a battery energy control module software update and replace the high-voltage battery pack if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by January 20, 2025.
Recall of Ford Super Duty Pickup Trucks Due to Faulty Fuel Pumps
In December 2024, Ford issued a recall for over 295,000 Super Duty pickup trucks, specifically the 2020-2022 F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600, and 2021-2022 F-650 and F-750 models. The recall addresses concerns that biodiesel deposits may form on the pump drivetrain roller components, potentially leading to high-pressure fuel pump failure. Such a failure can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
To resolve this issue, Ford dealers will update the powertrain control module software in the affected vehicles at no cost to the owners. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by January 13, 2025.
Recall of Ford Flex, Fiesta, and Lincoln MKT Vehicles Over Rearview Camera Issues
Ford has recalled over 30,000 vehicles, including the 2019 Ford Flex, Ford Fiesta, and Lincoln MKT models, due to concerns about faulty rearview cameras. The defect may cause the rearview camera to intermittently display a blank or distorted image, reducing the driver’s visibility and increasing the risk of a crash. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by February 3, 2025.
Ford plans to notify affected owners and instruct them to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer for a free repair once a remedy is determined.
Recall of Ford F-150 Lightning Electric Vehicles Due to Potential Loss of Steering Control
In December 2024, Ford announced a recall of nearly 12,000 F-150 Lightning battery electric vehicles from the 2023-2024 model years. The issue involves the front upper control arm ball joint nut, which may not have been tightened properly. This oversight can cause the front upper control arm to detach from the knuckle assembly, leading to a loss of vehicle steering and control, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
To fix this problem, Ford dealers will inspect the upper control arm ball joint nut and correct the tightening issue free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by February 3, 2025.
For further assistance on all of these recalls, owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
How Ford Owners Can Take Back Control
While recalls have been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, just like this—underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
