Ford Recalls Nearly 150,000 Broncos Over Rear Suspension Risk

History Behind the Recall

Ford is recalling 149,449 units of its 2021–2024 Bronco SUVs due to a critical rear suspension issue that could result in parts detaching from the vehicle. The issue specifically affects the Bronco Badlands trim and any models equipped with the off-road Sasquatch package.

According to documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on January 25, 2025, the affected vehicles are fitted with rear dampers that include a remote reservoir prone to corrosion. Over time, this corrosion can cause the reservoir to detach from the damper, leading to abnormal ride quality, rattling noises, or complete detachment, a potential road hazard that may increase crash risk.

Which Models Are Affected

The recall covers:

  • 2021–2024 Ford Bronco Badlands
  • 2021–2024 Ford Broncos with the Sasquatch package

Ford estimates that roughly 30% of the recalled vehicles may experience the issue. The problem arises from a long-flange design used in the rear dampers, which is more susceptible to corrosion between the reservoir, the mounting flange, and the damper body. This can lead to weld fatigue and material erosion.

What Owners Need to Do Next

Although Ford has identified a solution (switching to short-flange dampers in newer production models), a final remedy for affected vehicles has not yet been released. Ford has initiated an investigation and is actively developing a fix.

Owners will begin receiving notification letters by mail starting February 7, 2025. Once a fix is available, repairs will be completed free of charge at authorized dealerships. In the meantime, owners are advised to be alert to signs such as a bouncy ride or unusual suspension noises.

How Ford Owners Can Take Back Control

While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
