Hyundai Recalls Nearly 10,000 Ioniq 5s Over Headlight Labeling Issue

Headlight Label Misprint Sparks Safety Recall

Hyundai Motor America has issued a recall for 9,894 units of its 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5, citing a labeling error that could compromise nighttime driving visibility.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from incorrect headlamp aim adjustment labels installed on affected vehicles. These faulty labels may cause owners or technicians to misadjust the headlights, either too high, risking glare for oncoming drivers, or too low, limiting visibility and reducing reaction time during nighttime driving.

The problem, while not mechanical, still carries serious safety implications. Improperly aimed headlights are a known contributor to nighttime accidents and are closely regulated by federal standards. Hyundai has responded quickly, coordinating with federal authorities and launching a recall campaign to resolve the issue.

Vehicles Affected

The recall covers:

  • 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 built between February 22, 2024, and May 28, 2024

9,894 vehicles in total, and other Hyundai models are not impacted.

What Owners Should Do

Hyundai will notify affected owners by mail. The remedy is simple: dealers will replace the incorrect label with a compliant one free of charge. Some vehicles may also require minor headlight aim adjustments to ensure they meet federal standards.

To check if your vehicle is included, find your VIN (typically found on the dashboard or driver’s door) and enter it at www.nhtsa.gov or call your local Hyundai dealer.

This is part of Hyundai’s broader commitment to safety and regulatory compliance. While the issue does not impact vehicle performance, owners are urged to act promptly.

How Hyundai Owners Can Take Back Control

While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
