History Behind the Recall
Hyundai Motor America has issued a safety recall for two of its most advanced Genesis models, the GV60 electric crossover and G90 flagship sedan, due to a software issue that could cause the instrument panel cluster display to go blank during startup.
The defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 101, which governs automotive controls and displays. The failure stems from faulty software logic supplied by LG Electronics, affecting the visibility of key vehicle information such as speed, warnings, and system statuses – posing a serious safety concern.
Although Hyundai began implementing updated software in April 2024 (GV60) and April 2025 (G90), vehicles built prior to these dates remain at risk. In total, 4,754 U.S. vehicles are affected.
Which Models Are Affected
The recall covers model year 2023–2025 Genesis GV60 and G90 vehicles manufactured between:
- GV60: February 4, 2022 – May 14, 2025
- G90: April 21, 2022 – April 7, 2025
Affected U.S. units include:
- 2,409 GV60
- 2,345 G90
Hyundai has confirmed that owners will receive over-the-air (OTA) software updates, eliminating the need to visit a dealer unless issues persist.
What Owners Need to Do Next
Genesis will begin notifying owners by first-class mail no later than September 15, 2025. The recall remedy software will be deployed automatically over the air, requiring no action from the owner unless the issue continues.
