History Behind the Recall
Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 355,000 of its popular F-Series trucks after discovering a critical software defect that may cause the instrument panel cluster to go blank upon startup. This glitch prevents warning lights and key driving information from displaying, increasing the risk of a crash.
According to a report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from a memory protection fault in the cluster’s software, triggered under specific conditions during ignition cycles. When this occurs, the screen may remain black even after the engine starts. Leaving drivers unaware of vital metrics like speed, engine warnings, and system alerts.
Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG) first received reports of the issue in May 2025, particularly from the 2025 F-150. Supplier Visteon identified the root cause and confirmed the risk would grow as vehicles aged. The CCRG approved the recall on August 15, 2025.
Ford has logged at least 95 warranty claims potentially linked to the issue, and connected vehicle data shows 65% of affected trucks may exhibit the fault.
Which Models Are Affected
The recall applies to the following trucks, all of which are estimated to have the defect:
- 2025 Ford F-150
- 2025–2026 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty pickups
These trucks were built between May 14, 2024 and July 22, 2025, with faulty instrument panel cluster software that has since been corrected in production.
What Owners Need to Do Next
Ford dealers will update the faulty software free of charge. Notification letters will begin mailing on September 2, 2025, but owners can also visit a dealer for service before receiving their letter. In the meantime, drivers are urged to exercise caution and check their vehicle’s recall status using their VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
How Ford Owners Can Take Back Control
While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
