History Behind the Recall

Hyundai Motor America has issued a new safety recall affecting 31,042 IONIQ 6 electric vehicles from model years 2023–2025 after discovering that the charging port door panel may detach while driving.

Filed under NHTSA Campaign Number 25V606, the recall notes that a loose or detached charging port door could become a road hazard to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash. While the defect does not affect the vehicle’s electric propulsion system, it poses a risk of debris on the roadway and could compromise proper charging port protection over time.

Which Vehicles Are Affected?

The recall applies specifically to the 2023, 2024, and 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6, one of Hyundai’s flagship electric sedans.

According to Hyundai’s report, improper adhesion during assembly may cause the charging port door panel to separate from the vehicle when exposed to air pressure at highway speeds.

What Owners Need to Do Next

Hyundai dealers will apply an adhesive to the charging port door assembly to prevent detachment, free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on November 10, 2025, and affected VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov as of September 13, 2025.

For assistance, owners can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 and reference recall number 282.

How Hyundai Owners Can Take Back Control

While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
