History Behind the Recall

Genesis Motor America has announced a safety recall after discovering that side curtain airbags may not have been installed correctly in certain vehicles, potentially preventing proper deployment during a crash.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), improperly installed side curtain airbags may fail to deploy as designed in certain collision scenarios. Because these airbags are intended to protect occupants’ heads and upper bodies, a deployment failure could significantly increase the risk of injury in the event of an accident.

NHTSA warns that any defect affecting airbag performance presents a serious safety concern and requires prompt corrective action.

Which Vehicles Are Affected

The recall applies to a limited number of Genesis vehicles, including:

  • 2026 Genesis GV70

All affected vehicles were sold in the United States and may have been manufactured with incorrectly installed side curtain airbags.

What Owners Need to Do Next

Genesis dealers will inspect and reinstall the side curtain airbags, as necessary, free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning January 19, 2026. Owners with questions can contact Genesis customer service at 1-844-340-9741.

Vehicle owners can also check whether their vehicle is included in the recall by entering their VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

How Genesis Owners Can Take Back Control

While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
