Recall Overview

Chrysler has issued a safety recall affecting more than 80,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles after discovering that rear coil springs may have been incorrectly installed. According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the improperly positioned springs could detach from the vehicle while driving, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall affects approximately 80,620 vehicles, including certain 2021–2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L models and 2022–2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles.

What Is the Problem?

The issue relates to the positioning of the rear coil spring assembly. If the spring is not properly installed, it may become dislodged during vehicle operation. A detached spring could not only affect vehicle stability but also pose a danger to other road users if it falls onto the roadway.

According to NHTSA documents, the problem is not caused by a defective part but rather by an earlier repair process where some vehicles were serviced with the coil spring assembly incorrectly positioned. This recall follows an earlier campaign involving more than 300,000 Grand Cherokee vehicles for a similar issue. Some vehicles repaired during that earlier recall may still require additional corrective work.

What Owners Should Do

Jeep dealers will inspect the rear coil spring assembly and perform repairs if necessary, free of charge. Vehicles previously repaired under the earlier recall will still need to be inspected to ensure the updated remedy has been completed correctly.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning February 12. Owners can check whether their vehicle is affected by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA recall website or by contacting Jeep customer service directly at 800-853-1403.

How Jeep Owners Can Take Back Control

While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
