Ford Recall Overview
Ford has issued a sweeping recall affecting more than 1.3 million vehicles in the United States due to a series of critical safety defects. Including one so serious that the company has urged owners not to drive their trucks until the issue is fixed.
Among the most urgent recalls is a mechanical defect involving 2,345 of Ford’s 2025 Super Duty trucks, including the F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 models. These trucks may be missing a vital brake pedal retaining spring, which secures the brake booster pushrod to the pedal. Without it, drivers could suddenly lose braking power while driving, leading to a heightened crash risk.
Ford has begun contacting affected owners and is offering free repairs and rental vehicles during service. Until the issue is resolved, the automaker has issued a “Do Not Drive” warning, urging owners to contact their local dealer immediately.
What Other Vehicles Are Affected?
The missing brake spring defect is just one part of a broader recall campaign involving more than 1.3 million Ford vehicles. Including nearly 1.1 million vehicles with faulty rearview camera software, which may cause the camera feed to freeze or fail. This can severely reduce driver visibility while reversing.
Affected models are:
- 2021–2024 Ford Bronco
- 2021–2024 Ford F-150
- 2021–2024 Ford Edge
- 2021–2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E
- 2022–2025 Ford Transit
- 2024 Ford Mustang
Approximately 200,000 Mustang Mach-E vehicles are also being recalled due to a rear door lock defect that could trap backseat passengers if the 12-volt battery is low. Although rear passengers can still exit using the manual latch if accessible, Ford acknowledged the risk and is issuing software fixes.
So far, Ford says no serious injuries have been linked to these issues, although one minor crash has been reported in connection with the camera malfunction.
What Ford Owners Should Do
Ford has already started notifying affected owners. Depending on the issue, repairs may involve a physical inspection, camera software update, or full part replacement. Most updates can be completed free of charge at Ford dealerships, and owners affected by the brake defect will receive rental vehicle support during service.
Owners should check their VIN at the NHTSA recall site or contact Ford customer service to see if their vehicle is affected.
How Ford Owners Can Take Back Control
While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
