History Behind the Recall

Hyundai has issued a major safety recall impacting 568,580 Palisade SUVs across the United States due to a defect involving seat belt buckles that may not properly latch. The issue, reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), could prevent passengers from being safely restrained in the event of a collision, increasing the risk of injury.

According to Hyundai, the seat belt buckle assemblies in affected vehicles may fail to engage securely during use. This issue can result in seat belts that appear fastened but can detach under load or impact. To minimize risk before repairs, the automaker advises owners to insert the belt firmly into the buckle with a direct motion and pull to confirm it is latched.

Which Vehicles Are Affected?

The recall covers 2020–2025 Hyundai Palisade SUVs, one of Hyundai’s most popular large SUVs. The defect spans multiple production years and affects a wide portion of vehicles sold throughout the U.S.

What Owners Need to Do Next

Hyundai dealers will inspect and replace seat belt buckle assemblies as needed, free of charge.

Owners will be notified by mail with instructions to schedule service at their local Hyundai dealer.

How Hyundai Owners Can Take Back Control

While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
