History Behind the Recall

Hyundai Motor America has issued a safety recall after discovering that side curtain airbags may not have been installed correctly in a limited number of vehicles, potentially preventing proper deployment during a crash.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), improperly installed side curtain airbags may fail to deploy as designed in certain collision scenarios. If the airbags do not deploy correctly, occupants face an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

NHTSA notes that airbags are a critical safety component, and any failure in deployment significantly raises safety concerns for drivers and passengers.

Which Vehicles Are Affected

The recall affects approximately 258 vehicles, including the following models:

  • 2025 Hyundai Tucson
  • 2025–2026 Hyundai Santa Cruz
  • 2025–2026 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • 2025–2026 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid

All affected vehicles were sold in the United States and may have been built with incorrectly installed side curtain airbags.

What Owners Need to Do Next

Hyundai dealers will inspect and reinstall the side curtain airbags, as necessary, free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning January 19, 2026. Owners with questions can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460.

Owners can also check their VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm whether their vehicle is included in the recall.

How Hyundai Owners Can Take Back Control

While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
