General Motors is recalling 14,540 Cadillac Vistiq electric SUVs after discovering that the power-folding third-row seats may fail to respond correctly when an obstruction is detected, potentially leaving smaller passengers trapped beneath the seatback.

What is the problem?

The recall covers 2026-2027 Cadillac Vistiq models and involves the SUVs’ one-touch power-folding third-row seats. Under certain circumstances, the seatback may continue moving when it encounters a person or another obstruction instead of automatically reversing direction, creating a particular concern for children or smaller occupants who could become trapped underneath the powered seatback.

During testing, the seat reportedly continued its movement when resistance equivalent to a 33- to 40-pound object was placed on the seat, stopping in a position that required manual intervention to release the obstruction. GM said it has received six complaints connected to the issue, although no injuries have been reported. The problem was identified during an internal safety review, and shipments of 2027 Vistiq vehicles were subsequently stopped while the recall was addressed.

What owners should do

Owners of affected 2026-2027 Vistiq SUVs should avoid using the third-row power-folding function until the vehicle has been inspected or repaired. Dealers can temporarily disable the feature while replacement components are being prepared.

GM plans to replace the affected seat module with an updated component at no cost to owners. Recall notices are expected to be mailed from August 2026, and owners can check their VIN through the NHTSA recall database.

How Cadillac Vistiq owners can take back control

A problem involving a powered seat may seem straightforward, but concerns are understandably greater when the defect could affect a child’s safety. Owners who have already experienced problems with the third-row mechanism may also be left wondering whether other issues could develop.
