History Behind the Recall
Polestar Automotive USA, Inc. has announced a new recall affecting 27,816 Polestar 2 vehicles from model years 2021–2025 due to an issue with the rearview camera system. The defect can prevent the rear camera image from displaying when the car is shifted into reverse, increasing the risk of a collision.
Filed under NHTSA Campaign Number 25V615000, the recall falls under the category of back-over prevention – a safety-critical feature designed to protect pedestrians and property while reversing. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notes that a missing or frozen camera image significantly reduces the driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle.
Which Vehicles Are Affected?
This recall applies to Polestar 2 electric vehicles built between 2021 and 2025. The issue affects all trim levels and variants, regardless of battery size or configuration.
It also replaces two prior recalls (24V477 and 25V280), meaning even vehicles that were repaired previously must undergo this new update to fully resolve the issue.
What Owners Need to Do Next
Polestar will update the vehicle’s software free of charge once the final remedy becomes available.
Interim owner letters will be mailed on November 7, 2025, alerting owners to the safety risk.
A final fix is expected in the first or second quarter of 2026.
Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) will be searchable on NHTSA.gov starting September 17, 2025.
For further assistance, owners can contact Polestar customer service at 1-800-806-2504, referencing recall number RP1069.
How Polestar Owners Can Take Back Control
While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
