History Behind the Recall

Kia has issued a safety recall affecting certain 2025 model year Kia K4 and Kia Sorento vehicles  due to a potential engine defect that could result in a loss of drive power while driving. According  to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue involves  improperly tightened connecting rod bolts within the engine assembly.

The defect originates from a manufacturing concern at the supplier level, where connecting rod  bolts may not have been torqued to the correct specification during production. If the bolts loosen  or fail, internal engine damage can occur, potentially causing engine knocking, mechanical failure,  or sudden stalling. A loss of propulsion while driving increases the risk of a crash, particularly at  higher speeds or in heavy traffic conditions.

Kia estimates that all recalled vehicles may contain the defect and has issued the recall as a  precautionary safety measure.

Which Vehicles Are Affected

The recall applies to select 2025 model year vehicles, including:

  • 2025 Kia K4
  • 2025 Kia Sorento

The affected vehicles were produced during a limited manufacturing period in 2025. Owners may  notice unusual engine noises or reduced performance prior to failure, although in some cases the  issue may occur without warning.

What Owners Need to Do Next

Kia dealers will replace the affected sub-engine assemblies free of charge to eliminate the risk  associated with improperly secured connecting rod bolts. Owner notification letters are expected  to be mailed beginning September 12, 2025.

Affected owners are encouraged to contact their local Kia dealership to schedule an inspection  and repair as soon as possible. Owners who previously paid for repairs related to this issue may  also be eligible for reimbursement through Kia’s recall reimbursement program.

How Kia Owners Can Take Back Control

While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the  solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further  action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
