Ford is recalling 148,663 Mustang vehicles from the 2024 through 2026 model years after identifying a problem with the engine-compartment wiring harness. A failure in the harness grounding connections could cause the Mustang to lose drive power, while also affecting systems including the headlights and windshield washers.
What is the problem?
The issue involves ground connections within the engine-compartment wiring harness that may fracture. If a connection breaks, affected Mustangs could unexpectedly lose propulsion while being driven.
The same electrical fault can also disable the headlights, windshield-washing system, air conditioning, or engine cooling fan. A sudden loss of drive power could make it harder for a driver to control the vehicle, while losing headlights or washer function could reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash.
The recall covers Mustangs built between September 7, 2022, and June 9, 2026. Ford’s internal recall number is 26C40, while the campaign is listed by NHTSA as 26V547. Ford has said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries associated with the defect.
What owners should do
Ford has begun notifying affected owners about the safety issue, but the permanent repair is not expected to become available until approximately March 2027. A second notification will be issued once the remedy is ready.
Dealers will replace the engine-compartment wiring harness ground terminals free of charge. Owners can check their VIN through the NHTSA recall system or Ford’s recall lookup service to determine whether their Mustang is affected.
