Recall Overview
Cadillac has issued a safety recall affecting a small number of 2024 Lyriq electric SUVs due to a rearview camera issue that could increase the risk of a crash. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall impacts approximately 22 vehicles in the United States.
The issue stems from incorrectly calibrated software within the vehicle’s cockpit system, which may cause the rearview camera display to fail while reversing. Although the number of affected vehicles is limited, the defect directly impacts a key safety feature required for visibility during backing maneuvers.
What Is the Problem?
The defect involves the vehicle’s rear vision camera system, which may display a blank or gray screen when the vehicle is placed in reverse. This occurs due to a software calibration error that inadvertently disables the rearview camera in certain vehicles not equipped with additional features like hitch guidance.
If the rearview camera fails to display properly, drivers may not be able to see obstacles or pedestrians behind the vehicle, significantly increasing the risk of a collision while reversing.
General Motors identified the issue following an internal safety report submitted in December 2025. A subsequent investigation confirmed that the software configuration could disable the rearview camera under specific conditions.
What Owners Should Do
Cadillac dealers will update the vehicle cockpit unit software to correct the issue, free of charge. The update can be performed at a dealership or installed over the air (OTA).
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by March 30, 2026. In the meantime, owners can check for available software updates through the vehicle’s system settings or contact Cadillac customer service for further assistance.
How Cadillac Owners Can Take Back Control
While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
