Stellantis is recalling 848,511 vehicles in the United States after discovering that a software problem may prevent the rearview camera image from appearing on the infotainment screen when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. The defect affects a wide range of 2026-2027 model-year Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles and could reduce visibility when drivers back up.
What is the problem?
The recall involves a radio software error that can interfere with the vehicle’s rearview camera display. When an affected vehicle is placed into reverse, the camera image may fail to appear on the infotainment screen, leaving the driver without the expected view of the area behind the vehicle.
The affected vehicles include 2026 Chrysler Pacifica, 2026-2027 Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid, 2026 Chrysler Voyager, 2026-2027 Dodge Charger, and 2026 Jeep Cherokee, Compass, Gladiator, Grand Cherokee, Grand Wagoneer, and Wrangler models. The recall also covers 2026 Ram 1500, Ram 2500, and Ram ProMaster vehicles.
A missing rearview image can make it harder for drivers to spot pedestrians, vehicles, or objects when reversing, increasing the risk of a collision. Stellantis said it had not received reports of crashes or injuries linked to the issue when it announced the recall.
What owners should do
Owners of affected vehicles will receive an over-the-air radio software update designed to correct the problem. A notification will appear on the vehicle’s infotainment system when the update is available, while recall letters are expected to provide additional instructions.
Until the software update has been installed, Stellantis advises drivers to use their rearview and side mirrors when reversing if the camera image does not appear. Owners can also check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall database.
How Stellantis owners can take back control
A vehicle’s technology is supposed to make everyday driving easier, so discovering that an important safety feature can suddenly stop working can be frustrating. For owners who have already encountered repeated software faults or other problems, another defect may raise broader concerns about the vehicle’s reliability.
