Lucid is recalling 27,185 Air sedans from the 2022 through 2026 model years after identifying a problem with the vehicle’s low-voltage exterior lighting system. The issue could allow excessive electrical current through certain lighting circuits, potentially causing overheating, smoke, or a fire.

What is the problem?

The defect involves software controlling the Air’s electronic fuse system. The exterior lighting circuits may not have adequate protection against excessive current, allowing components to become dangerously hot.

The affected circuits include exterior lights such as the front lamps and center high-mounted brake light. If one overheats, it could produce smoke or potentially ignite. A failure involving headlights or brake lights could also reduce the vehicle’s visibility to other road users.

Lucid began investigating after receiving reports of smoke and fires involving Air sedans, identifying three fires, four smoke incidents, and 33 warranty reports potentially associated with the issue.

What owners should do

Lucid has developed an over-the-air software update, version 2.10.0 or later, to change how the vehicle’s electrical protection system responds when excessive current is detected. The recall remedy does not require a physical replacement part, and owners whose vehicles have not received the update are being advised to park outdoors and away from structures until the software has been installed. Lucid began notifying affected owners and expects further recall communications to be sent from October 16, 2026. Owners can also contact Lucid at 1-888-995-8243 for further information about the recall.

When a vehicle fire becomes more than a recall repair

For an owner who has experienced smoke, overheating, or an actual fire, simply receiving a software update may leave important questions about what happened and whether other losses resulted from the defect.
