History Behind the Recall
Ferrari has issued a safety recall for its high-performance Purosangue sport utility vehicle after identifying a defect that could lead to a loss of braking ability. The issue stems from a possible electrical short circuit between the fuse box and the passenger-side footrest, which can trigger brake warnings and lead to decreased brake performance without notice.
The issue was first investigated following a report in China of sudden braking loss. Ferrari North America then concluded the defect could affect hundreds of vehicles sold in the United States.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) published the official recall (25V-XXX) in late July. If left unrepaired, the defect could increase the risk of a crash, especially under heavy braking conditions.
Which Models Are Affected
The recall applies to an estimated 541 Ferrari Purosangue vehicles produced between July 25, 2022, and February 18, 2025. All recalled vehicles are equipped with Ferrari’s 6.5-liter V12 engine and are part of the brand’s first SUV lineup.
The specific model affected:
- 2023–2025 Ferrari Purosangue
Ferrari says a plastic spacer will be installed between the fuse box and footrest to prevent contact and potential shorts.
What Owners Need to Do Next
Ferrari will notify affected owners by first-class mail no later than September 21, 2025, though most are expected to be contacted directly by their dealership. The repair will be completed at no cost to the vehicle owner.
In the meantime, owners can call Ferrari North America at (201) 816-2600 or visit nhtsa.gov/recalls to check if their vehicle is included in the recall using their 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
How Ferrari Owners Can Take Back Control
While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
