Ford Recalls Over 29,000 F-150 Lightning Trucks Over Steering Control Risk

Ford Motor Company has issued a safety recall affecting 29,501 of its 2024–2025 F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks sold in the United States.

Background on the Recall

The issue stems from a potential defect in the suspension control arm, which may detach while the vehicle is in motion, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected trucks may experience loss of steering control if the control arm disconnects – a serious safety concern that prompted swift regulatory action.

The issue has been formally identified by the NHTSA as a critical fault with potentially severe consequences.

Which Vehicles Are Affected

  • 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning BEV
  • 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning BEV

This recall only applies to the battery electric versions (BEV) of Ford’s F-150 Lightning. The defect does not currently apply to internal combustion F-150 models or other Ford trucks.

Next Steps for Owners

Ford is expected to inspect and replace the affected control arm components free of charge. Vehicle owners will be notified via mail about the recall and instructed to bring their vehicles to an authorized Ford dealer for inspection and repairs.

Official notification letters are expected to begin mailing in the coming weeks. Owners who are concerned in the meantime can check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA recall website to verify if their vehicle is affected.

For further questions, owners can also contact Ford customer service or visit their dealership.

How Ford Drivers Can Take Back Control

While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
