Recall Overview

Ford has issued a major safety recall affecting more than 410,000 vehicles in the United States due to a defect in the rear suspension system. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall impacts 412,774 model year 2017–2019 Ford Explorer SUVs.

The issue involves a component within the rear suspension that may fracture, potentially leading to a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash. While no injuries have been reported so far, the defect is considered a serious safety concern.

What Is the Problem?

The recall centers on the rear link toe suspension, which plays a key role in maintaining proper wheel alignment and vehicle stability. In affected vehicles, this component may fracture due to stress over time.

If the rear suspension link breaks, it can significantly affect steering and handling, making the vehicle more difficult to control. In severe cases, this could lead to a sudden loss of steering stability, particularly at higher speeds or during turns.

Because the issue can develop without clear warning signs, Ford has issued the recall as a preventative safety measure.

What Owners Should Do

Ford dealers will inspect the rear suspension components and replace the rear toe link as necessary, free of charge. This repair is designed to restore proper vehicle handling and eliminate the risk associated with the defect.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed between March 9 and March 13, 2026. In the meantime, owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) through the NHTSA recall database to confirm whether their vehicle is affected.

Drivers who notice unusual handling or suspension noise should arrange an inspection as soon as possible.

How Ford Owners Can Take Back Control

While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
