Ford is recalling 37 2026 F-150 pickup trucks after discovering that an incorrect rear axle tail bearing may have been installed during production. The problem could cause a rear wheel to lock up or the driveshaft to separate, potentially leaving drivers without power and increasing the risk of a crash.
What is the problem?
The recall involves an incorrectly specified rear axle tail bearing fitted to certain 2026 F-150 vehicles. If the bearing causes the rear axle to malfunction, a rear wheel could lock while the truck is moving, which could affect the driver’s ability to control the vehicle. A driveshaft separation could also result in a sudden loss of drive power. There is an additional concern when an affected truck is parked. If the driveshaft separates and the parking brake has not been applied, the vehicle could potentially roll away.
The recall is listed as NHTSA Campaign Number 26V576000, while Ford has assigned it recall number 26S63. NHTSA identifies the affected component as part of the vehicle’s powertrain.
What owners should do
Ford will replace the incorrect rear axle tail bearing free of charge at participating dealerships. Owners are expected to receive recall notification letters beginning September 21, 2026. VINs for vehicles covered by the campaign will become searchable through the NHTSA website from September 14, 2026.
F-150 owners can also contact Ford customer service on 1-866-436-7332 for information about the recall and repair process.
What this could mean for affected F-150 owners
A powertrain defect can create serious concerns when a vehicle suddenly loses drive power or develops a problem that affects wheel movement. For anyone who has experienced additional mechanical problems with their F-150, keeping records of inspections, repairs, and dealership visits can be important.
