Recall Overview

Winnebago Industries has issued a safety recall affecting more than 1,500 motorhomes due to a defect that could cause the onboard generator to activate without warning. The recall applies to certain 2022–2027 Winnebago EKKO motorhomes and was officially issued on April 22.

The issue has been identified as a potential safety hazard, particularly in enclosed environments, where unintended generator operation could pose serious health risks.

What Is the Problem?

The defect is linked to the motorhome’s touchscreen display, which may register unintended or “phantom” inputs. These false inputs can trigger the generator to turn on without the operator’s knowledge or command.

Because there is no warning prior to activation, the generator may begin running unexpectedly. In enclosed spaces such as garages or storage areas, this creates a dangerous situation where carbon monoxide could build up, increasing the risk of injury or even death.

Once activated, operators may only notice the issue through engine noise or vibration.

What Owners Should Do

Winnebago is advising owners to park their vehicles outdoors and avoid enclosed spaces until the issue has been resolved. This precaution is critical to reduce the risk of carbon monoxide exposure.

The company will release a free over-the-air (OTA) software update to correct the touchscreen input issue and prevent unintended generator activation.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by June 18. In the meantime, owners can contact Winnebago customer service at 1-641-585-6939 or 1-800-537-1885 for more information. The recall reference number is 205.

How Winnebago Owners Can Take Back Control

While this recall has been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
